Press Release: Deputy’s Vehicle Strikes Deer and Overturns

Avenue, Maryland – On December 31, 2013 at 7:15AM, Sergeant Robert Russell was traveling, (in a non-emergency status), north on Oakley Road in the area of Banerjee Court in his agency issued patrol vehicle when a deer entered the roadway. Sergeant Russell’s vehicle struck the deer, which became lodged underneath the vehicle and prevented the vehicle from being steered. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned into a ditch filled with water; trapping Sergeant Russell inside. Assistance arrived and freed Sergeant Russell from the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital for precautionary measures and released.
