PRESS RELEASE: Two Replica Firearms Recovered from Students at Educational Center / Cases are Unrelated:

On October 19 at 9:51 a.m., school administrators at Robert D. Stethem Educational Center detected the odor of marijuana on a 14-year-old student. Further investigation by the administrators revealed the student was in possession of baggies containing residue of marijuana and a replica firearm / BB gun, which was recovered from his waistband. The school resource officer responded and recovered the gun and baggies; the student was released to a parent. In an unrelated incident that occurred at about 2 p.m., a school administrator detected the odor of marijuana on a 16-year-old student. The administrator also found a replica firearm / BB gun and marijuana in the student’s book bag. The school resource officer recovered the items. The student was released to a parent.

The school resource officer is consulting with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office in reference to the cases and charges are pending further investigation. Parents are urged to talk with their children about the dangers of bringing replica firearms, weapons, and drugs to school and the consequences they could face including criminal charges and or disciplinary action from the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS). Lexington Park Man Arrested on Drug, Gun Charges

PRESS RELEASE: Lexington Park Man Arrested on Drug, Gun Charges

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s Vice/Narcotics Division executed a series of search warrants at First Road in Lexington Park. The subject of the investigation, Thomas Donnell Evans, age 42 of Lexington Park, was located and apprehended. Located in the search were three firearms, currency, CDS packing materials and a large quantity of of suspected MDMA, Oxycodone and Fentanyl.

Evans is a disqualified individual from owning firearms and ammunition due to previous convictions. Evans was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown and charged with:

-CDS Posssion: Not Marijuana (four counts)

-CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute

-CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics (four counts)

-CDS Possession: Large amount

-Illegal Possession of Regulated Firearm (two counts)

-Firearm /Drug Traffic Crime and other firearm charges

Evans is currently being held on a no-bond status

PRESS RELEASE: Officers Investigate Report of Firearm on School Property

On October 18 at 3:16 p.m., school authorities at J.P. Ryon Elementary School notified the school resource officer about a juvenile male in the parking lot with what appeared to be a gun. A parent who was waiting in the car rider line saw the juvenile place the gun in his backpack while walking from John Hanson Middle School to J.P. Ryon. This occurred during the dismissal of J.P. Ryon students.

Officers located the juvenile in front of the school and recovered a water bead gun from the juvenile’s book bag. The gun had been painted black and looked like an assault rifle. There was an orange magazine in the gun containing water beads. The juvenile’s parent was contacted and responded to the school.

Through further investigation it was discovered the juvenile, age 13, hid the gun outside, between John Hanson and J.P. Ryon, on his way to school this morning. The juvenile recovered the gun at the end of the day while on his way to J.P. Ryon, to pick up two relatives. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Cpl.
