Detectives Make Arrest in St. Leonard Burglary Case

PRESS RELEASE: Detectives Make Arrest in St. Leonard Burglary Case

On April 17, 2023 at 3:40 a.m., deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau responded to a commercial burglary at the King Smoke Tobacco Shop located at 4955 St. Leonard Road in St. Leonard.

Deputies arrived on scene and discovered the front window shattered and various items stolen from the business.

During the course of investigation, a description of the suspect and suspect vehicle was obtained. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and recovered evidence linking him to the robbery.

On May 2, 2023, the suspect, Robert Edward Page, 19 of St. Leonard, was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Burglary, Theft: $25,000 to Under $100,000.00, and Malicious Destruction of Property Value $1000+.

Huntingtown Man Pleads Guilty to Animal Cruelty

PRESS RELEASE: Huntingtown Man Pleads Guilty to Animal Cruelty

On May 1, 2023, Edward Stanley Williams, 54 of Huntingtown, pleaded guilty in Calvert County Circuit Court to 4 counts of felony animal cruelty relating to the use and possession of dogs for dogfighting, and 1 count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Sentencing is set for July 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. before the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee.

These charges are the result of a collaborative effort between Calvert County Animal Control, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the Humane Society, and the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Through this investigation, it was determined that Williams maintained twelve American Pitbull Terrier type dogs on the property. Several of the dogs had injuries and scarring consistent with having been used in a dogfight. Numerous implements of dogfighting were also located at the property including weighted collars, breeding stands, break sticks, and assorted medications. Investigators also recovered photographs, videotapes, and documents memorializing dogfighting activities.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher J. Monte.

Maryland State Police Investigating Two Separate Fatal Crashes In Prince George’s County

PRESS RELEASE: Maryland State Police Investigating Two Separate Fatal Crashes In Prince George’s County

(FORESTVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating two separate, fatal crashes today in Prince George’s County.

At about 5:55 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack responded to southbound Crain Highway (US Route 301) at Brandywine Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a 2010 Lexus ES was traveling east on Brandywine Road, west of southbound Crain Highway. At the same time, a 2004 Honda Accord was traveling south on Crain Highway as the Lexus entered the intersection, where the crash occurred.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as Aaron Lewis Johnson, 38, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was transported by ambulance to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where he was declared deceased. The male driver of the Honda was transported by ambulance to MedStar Washington Hospital Center while two female passengers, ages 5 and 3, were transported to Children’s National Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The road was closed for a little less than two hours following the crash.

At about 12:45 p.m., troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to southbound Branch Avenue north of Allentown Road for a report of a two-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling south on Branch Avenue when it struck the rear of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Equinox lost control of the vehicle and overturned.

The passenger of the Equinox, identified as Jaquan Christopher Newsome, 30, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was declared deceased at the scene. A female passenger in the Tahoe was transported by ambulance to Adventist Healthcare Fort Washington Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The road was closed for about four hours following the crash. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation into both crashes.
